The Londono family of Overland Park, Kansas have turned their
comfortable suburban home into a huge display of Christmas devotion. Fernando and
Constanza Londono, Cure' of Ars parishioners, and their two children
spend several weeks each winter converting their family room into a tiered,
lighted display of typical scenes of life in their native Colombia and throughout
the world using thousands of miniature lighted buildings, fountains, structures,
animals, and people. The display leads to the top level, and the Holy Family. On Christmas Eve, the Londono family places
the Christ Child into the crib as part of their Christmas observance.
Fernando and Constanza moved to Kansas City many years ago, but their living room manger
display has brought home a little bit of their native Colombia into their home. These displays
are common in Colombia, with many people even using cardboard buildings where
more elaborate structures are not available. Friends travelling around the world have
brought them many buildings, including a fountain from Florida, a barn from Thailand, and a fruit stand
from Colombia.
